The Nikon PS-4 Slide Copying Adapter was originally designed for precise duplication of 35mm negatives and transparencies—both in black and white and in color—either at full size or cropped and enlarged. Used together with Nikon’s PB-4 or PB-5 bellows focusing attachments, it allows for fine positioning of the original image both vertically and horizontally, enabling accurate framing. The unit includes trays for unmounted film strips and a magnet to keep the bellows closed when not in use, offering a stable and reliable solution for film copying.
Today, the PS-4 can be repurposed effectively for digital archiving of film using modern digital cameras. Instead of time-consuming scanning, this method enables quick and high-resolution duplication of negatives and slides.
In our experience, we achieved excellent results using a Nikon D800 paired with the Nikon Micro 55mm lens. To physically mount the PS-4 to most Nikon DSLR bodies, an extension ring is required—this is due to the camera’s protruding handgrip, which otherwise interferes with attachment. We used the Nikon PK-12 (14mm), which worked perfectly for this setup.
For those interested in a complete step-by-step guide on how to use the Nikon PS-4 with a digital camera, we’ve prepared a separate article (link to follow) with detailed instructions and practical tips.

I’ve tried this method but haven’t gotten good results. I use a 55mm f/3.5 Micro Nikkor and a Sony Alpha 7III. Maybe I’m doing something wrong. There are strong lights at the edges of the image. Regards.
